When crossing a fence while hunting, it is important to always unload your firearm and place it under the fence. This is the safest option because it eliminates the possibility of the firearm accidentally discharging while attempting to cross the fence. Additionally, handing the firearm to another hunter or crossing the fence while holding the firearm are both unsafe options and could result in accidental injury. Leaving the firearm loaded but engaging the safety is also not a safe option as the safety mechanism can fail and it is better to completely eliminate the risk by unloading the firearm.
